Metrics related to product catalog, inventory, and distribution
SKU Count
Total number of unique products (Stock Keeping Units) available on a platform. A unique combination of product name and quantity constitutes one SKU (e.g., "Amul Butter 500g" and "Amul Butter 100g" are two separate SKUs).
"Coca-Cola 750ml", "Coca-Cola 2L", and "Coca-Cola 300ml" = 3 SKUs
Higher SKU count indicates broader product assortment. Compare across platforms to understand catalog depth.
Availability
Percentage of products that are currently in stock and available for purchase.
If 9,000 out of 10,000 products are in stock, Availability = 90%
Higher availability means better inventory management. Low availability may indicate supply chain issues or high demand.
Depth
Percentage of SKUs that are available in 80% or more of the stores in a city. Measures how widely a product is distributed across stores. When aggregating depth across multiple cities, we use a weighted average based on SKU count in each city.
City A: 50% depth with 10,000 SKUs, City B: 40% depth with 5,000 SKUs → Weighted Avg = (50×10000 + 40×5000) / 15000 = 46.7%
Higher depth indicates consistent product availability across stores. Low depth suggests uneven distribution or localized assortment.
Metrics related to product pricing and discounts
Discount %
Average discount offered across all products, calculated as the difference between MRP and selling price.
If average MRP is ₹100 and average selling price is ₹85, Discount = 15%
Higher discounts may indicate competitive pricing or promotional activity. Very high discounts could impact profitability.
Avg Selling Price
Average selling price of products on the platform.
If total selling prices sum to ₹1,000,000 across 10,000 products, Avg = ₹100
Indicates the price positioning of the platform. Higher ASP may suggest premium product mix or less discounting.
Understanding relative comparisons between platforms
Index Value
Relative comparison metric where Blinkit is set as the baseline (1.00). Other platforms are measured relative to this baseline.
If Blinkit has 15,000 SKUs and Zepto has 12,000, Zepto Index = 12,000/15,000 = 0.80
Index > 1.00 means the platform exceeds Blinkit. Index < 1.00 means it trails Blinkit. Useful for quick relative comparisons.
